Board of
Directors

We are pleased to introduce you to our Board of Directors, a group of dedicated individuals who guide Hanalei Initiative’s mission through their diverse expertise and deep commitment to the North Shore community. We invite you to explore and learn more about the amazing people behind our work.

Mina Morita

President

Mina Morita has called Hanalei Valley home since 1977, where she and her husband raised their two daughters. She now has five grandchildren and Mina, like all families on the island, worries about her children and grandchildren’s’ future here on Kauai. After retiring from close to twenty years in State government as a legislator, commissioner and administrator, she hopes to use that experience to preserve the beauty, history, and culture of Kauai's northshore and work towards solutions to make its communities more sustainable and resilient.

Amy Frazier

Vice President

Born and raised on Kauai, Amy Frazier is a longtime Hanalei resident and one of the founding board members of the Hanalei Initiative, where she also served as past president and current vice president.

With a diverse business background, Amy’s goal of homeownership led her to become a real estate broker, building a reputation for transparency, integrity, and commitment to the community. She stays active on advocating for property tax policies that keep taxes affordable for long-term rentals, generational families, and owner-occupants.

Amy’s community involvement includes various volunteer roles, including her time as past President of the Hanalei School PTSA and as a past board member for the Hawaii Life Charitable Foundation.

Amy lives in Hanalei with her husband, Paul, where they’ve raised their two boys, Miles, an independent filmmaker, and Steele, who is currently studying at SDSU.

Megan McCullough

Secretary

Megan strongly values service and volunteerism. While her boys attended Aloha School, Hanalei Elementary School and Island School she was an active and consistent volunteer. This first experience living in Ha'ena allowed her to learn and appreciate the intricacies and uniqueness of the North Shore.

As participation in family activities expanded island-wide through pop warner, Hanakila basketball, soccer, surfing, and Mr. K’s ukulele concerts, Megan enjoyed getting to know the rest of the island.

After seeing the successful implementation of much-needed solutions for the North Shore community, she is thrilled to continue her love of service by participating as a part of the HI.

Megan gratefully enjoys a busy schedule with the family business, taking care of North Shore beaches, photography, travel, and of course, family.

Janet Kass

Treasurer

Janet moved to Kauai in 2017 when she retired from her job as Chief Financial Officer of an electric cooperative in Michigan.  Earlier in her career, she worked in various financial roles at Ford and Exxon.  She served on the board of directors of Kauai Island Utility Cooperative (KIUC) for six years, and on the board of Hawaii Health Systems Corporation Kauai Region for three years.  She plays the piano and leads the music for one of the services at St. Catherine Church, where she also chairs the Finance Council.  She moved to Kauai because she loved tropical plants, which she used to grow indoors in pots.  Now, for fun and exercise, she spends a bit of time almost every day attempting to tame the jungle of her yard.

Alanna Bauman

After spending five and a half years on the mainland, Hawaii called her home, and she worked as a Legislative Aide for Representative Nakamura during the 2020 Legislative Session. The COVID-19 pandemic brought her back to Kauai, and over the past few years, she began working part-time at various nonprofits, including The Kauai Independent Food Bank, Leadership Kauai, and Kaunalewa, and she led a Financial Forecasting course through L.E.I. of Kaua'i's Community Innovation Grant for Career Technical Education.
