Who We Are

The Hanalei Initiative is a 501(c)(3) organization focusing on addressing the immediate and long-term community and environmental needs of Hanalei and Kauai’s North Shore. Our approach is rooted in community-led initiatives supported by government collaboration. By fostering strong community engagement and building effective relationships with local government, we aim to develop solutions, implement strategies, and see our projects through to completion.

Our Three Main Areas of Focus:

Environmental Stewardship

We are dedicated to preserving the natural beauty of the North Shore by ensuring clean, safe, and accessible outdoor spaces for the community to enjoy. Our efforts include building effective public-private partnerships that implement practical solutions for environmental sustainability, fostering a deeper connection between residents and their surroundings.

Transportation Solutions

Recognizing that transportation is vital to the quality of life for both residents and visitors, we strive to address the challenges of traffic congestion and accessibility. By promoting smart transportation solutions, we aim to create a balanced approach that enhances mobility while protecting the character and tranquility of our community.

Economic Development

We believe in fostering a diverse and resilient economy for Kauai’s North Shore. Our focus is on creating sustainable business opportunities that benefit the community and enable residents to keep up with a rapidly increasing cost of living. We seek to empower local businesses and promote economic growth that aligns with the values of our residents.
